Development of a measurement system for holographical LCDen_US
Holographical transflective Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) which consists of a LCD and holographic transflective material are approaching to production phase. The main concern towards the LCD manufacturer is to understand the optical characteristics of these holographical material and LCD. In LCD industry, the Electro-Optcial (EO) performance of a display is currently evaluated by using a transmissive system which cannot be used to evaluate the optical characteristics of the holographic material and holographical LCD. Hence, a measurement system is developed to serve for this purpose. The developed system is consisted of a mechanical part for mounting the test samples at various testing positions. A light illuminator is placed in front of the sample. An optics head is used to measure the transflected light from the sample. This transflected light will then be processed to obtain the luminance (brightness) and color information of the light. By varying the testing configurations and the combinations of LCD and the holographic material, the performance characteristics of the combination can be measured. This will enable manufacturer to match the LCD and holographic material for their future telecom products. The developed system besides evaluate the electro-optical (EO) performances of transflective LCD. It can also be used for evaluating the performance of standard LCD which is currently evaluated by using a transmissive measuring system.en_US
