Organizational factors for successful management of software development with a focus on Hong Kong and Chinaen_US
IT industry has been flourishing in both China and Hong Kong. In view of abundant supply of staff and cost efficiency, more and more Hong Kong firms have set up their software development branch in the mainland in the forms of wholly owner establishment or joint venture. Due to different in environmental factors, local practitioners need more understanding on software project management issues in the mainland and Hong Kong. This will contribute positively to the achievement of project and quality goals. In this study, we address the topic from two angles, namely good software development management practices (dependent variables) and organizational factors (independent variables). Both variables affect the success of a project. Through questionnaire survey and interviews, we have identified a common list of good organizational factors that affect the adoption of management practices. Moreover, we summarise some organizational problems and proposed solutions within a software development project. We also contrast and compare the adoption of management practices and organizational factors of Hong Kong and China. It is expected that this study will contribute to more understanding on project management issue in an organizational context. IT also provides practitioners a snap shot on the adoption of management practices in the two localities.en_US
