| dcterms.abstract | Since the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR) in July 1997, the Government information and public relations work has come under an unprecedented and unceasing series of attacks from all sides of the society, including the general public, the media and the legislators. Both the whole SAR Government and the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee-hwa, were severely criticized for, among other things, poor communication both internally and externally. In response, the Government made several moves to counter the attacks. Changes were brought to the information machinery structure. Taking the Government's communication with the public via the media through its information machinery as a the focus, this paper attempts to analyse the situation, assess Government moves and evaluate the handling of two significant events in the field of Government's public image. | en_US |
