Service provision of day activity centre (DAC) cum hostel : caregiver's and frontline worker's perspectivesen_US
This qualitative study aims at finding out more about current service provision of DAC cum hostel to people with developmental disabilities in Hong Kong from both the parents' and frontline workers' perspective. Five parent caregivers and six frontline workers were recruited from two centres to be the participants of this study. Data collected from the semi-structure interviews revealed four major themes. They were training priority, management of behaviour; level of communication and participation in service provision; as well as usefulness of current service provision. These themes reflected parents had different training priority for their adult children with behaviour problems and there was a general low expectation in skill training for people with moderate to severe disabilities. Both parents and frontline workers found handling of behaviour problems stressful. Good communication networks were considered to be important by all participants in the interviews. Open-door approach adopted by service providers was well received by parents. Findings of this study need to be confirmed by further researches to see whether the same experiences are also shared by others using/providing the same kind of service.en_US
