Abstract: A new technology called General Packet Radio System (GPRS) is introduced in the GSM world recently. Under this situation, voice and data calls will be co-existed in the same system. Since voice calls are circuit-switched connection while data calls are packet-switched connection in GSM, two different types of traffic pattern will be shared the radio resources at the same time. In this dissertation, we use different traffic models to simulate different traffic patterns under the same system, so that we can get a more realistic simulated environment. For the radio resources are shared by voice and data calls at the same time, two allocation algorithms - fixed allocation algorithm and dynamic allocation algorithm - are studied for comparing the network capacity. At the end of the simulation, we can estimate the gain with statistical data in term of data network capacity if using dynamic allocation instead of fixed allocation algorithm.
