Abstract: This study examined the factors that affected the business performance of industrial operators that include Designated Driving Schools (DDS) and Private Driving Instructors (PDI) in the driver training industry in Hong Kong. Based on the interview results and survey findings that collected from the principles of Designated Driving Schools and Private Driving Instructors, the major factors and their influence degrees to the business performance have been identified. It was found that Designated Driving Schools put more emphasize on the corporate internal factors, such as staff involvement and quality of management team. For Private Driving Instructors, they were more affected by the environmental factors, such as economic conditions and competitions. At this moment, individual Private Driving Instructors could not be the competitors of Designated Driving Schools in terms of recourses and branding. Therefore, Private Driving Instructors have to join some private driving schools. Through those private driving schools, they were competing with Designated Driving Schools and those standalone Private Driving Instructors too.
