Abstract: The dissertation describes a new paradigm for displaying advertisements on WWW. The current technique to construct a user profile is either labour intensive or unable to determine a user's interests correctly via the implicit information. A methodology is proposed for use of the intelligent agents designed for Internet Services Provider (ISP) to help the determination of appropriateness of displaying a given advertisement to a visitor by using specified information about the potential customer. This paradigm takes advantage of an ISP proxy server to construct the agent so that it is independent on explicit user responses while utilizing of the available information about potential customers. It is also composed of a keyword knowledge base and Gaussian curves for agent modelling.
