Development of a XML based domain specific mediator : demonstrate[d] by a chain stores inventory control mediatoren_US
In Hong Kong Chain Stores is the trend for retailing. Large number of outlets spread over wide geographic areas that creates challenges to traditional inventory control applications that requires permanent network connection and high maintenance cost for implementing enhancements /patches. The concept of mediation has been applied to the development of a three-tier architecture for electronic commerce applications on the Web.XML has been used to define the necessary data models for the mediators, and for communication with and between the mediators. This approach makes the system more flexible and easier to maintain as the system eudues. Inventory control has been use as the prototype to validate the concept. The implementation of the prototype integrates the latest technologies for the Web and distributed object technologies. Java Applets, Servlets and CORBA have been employed in the prototype development.en_US
