Design and development of a model for Internet banking system : loan applicationen_US
Nowadays, there are mainly two standards for making financial transaction on Internet, Secure Electronic Transaction (SET) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). SET has been designed to facilitate secure payment card transactions over the Internet [8]. It defines how to exchange data in order to complete a transaction. On the other hand, SSL is for managing the security of message transmissions in a network [9]. It means that SSL does not define how to exchange data in order to perform a transaction, but provides a secure channel for exchanging data. In 1997, Microsoft has announced its standard "Open Financial Exchange (OFX)" for exchanging financial information on Internet [10]. OFX use SSL to implement its transport level security to secure the data being exchanged. However, OFX has its limitations in terms of feasibility and functionality. First, Microsoft defines different record formats for each kind of transaction in the OFX specification. It means that OFX cannot support newly invented transaction without reviewing the OFX specification. Second, OFX adopts the "Request/Response" model. It means that transaction should normally complete in two steps. Obviously, some kinds of transactions may be very difficult to model with two steps. In this thesis, I design a new model, called Internet Bank Transaction Model (IBTM) IBTM use SSL as the transport layer. It overcomes the limitations of OFX, and allows complex transactions to be design. Also, the model is extensible. Developers can define their own transaction type. The model mainly consists of an Internet Banking Transaction Protocol (IBTP) and an Internet Banking Transaction Script (IBTS). IBTP defines the record formats and the mechanism for exchanging financial data. IBTS is a script, which allows developers to define the workflow of their transaction types. Based on the designed model, a framework has been designed as a road map for implementing an Internet Banking System with IBTM. The framework highlights the major steps for implementing a system with IBTM. Finally, in order to allow a better understanding of the system, and demonstrate the primary capabilities of the model, I implemented a prototyping Internet banking system with IBTM.en_US
