dcterms.abstractFacility Management outsourcing is recognised as one of most effective business model for business to have this supporting service provided by third party professionals. As a result, companies can be more focus on the development of their core business. In addition, there are advantages to achieve cost savings and better quality of service. However, not all the FM outsourcings turn out to be a success. Some companies implementing outsource suffer higher operating costs, lower service quality and even business losses. It is very important to have a small in-house expert team playing the 'Intelligent Client Function' to unlash the potential benefits and manage the risks by good management of an outsourcing. Nevertheless, it seems that there are few books or research paper on the 'down to earth' practices and tactics leading the way to successful outsourcing. The objectives of this dissertation are to develop such an outsourcing management framework. The methodology starts with observation of problems. By using the Cause and Effect Analysis which is also an important tool in Six Sigma to identify all possible root causes of the problems. Solutions can, therefore, be formulated in response to the root causes of the problems. By further development, thes3e solutions can turn to precautions to avoid happening of problems if they are implemented in the planning stages beforehand. Hence, all these best practices are mapped into different stages of outsourcing, which form a management framework. The methodology was verified by five case studies on common problems namely cultural clash, maintenance scope, performance management, supply chain management, and transition encountered in real life experience. A list of best practices have been identified and mapped back into different stages to form an outsourcing management framework. The methodology is understandable tool and easy to use, encouraging more best practice sharing of the FM industry.en_US
