The impact of e-business on supply chain managementen_US
Supply chain management is concerned with the co-ordination of information, material and financial flows through improved relationships at all stages of the supply chain to obtain a sustainable competitive advantage. The aim of supply chain is to use the information provided by e-business to integrate a number of discrete and fragmented processes into a cohesive system capable of delivering value to the customer. The application of e-business in supply chain management is becoming more well-recognized as a critical tool in facilitating the supply chain process. It could considerably enhance the efficiency of industry players and help corporations to stand out in the increasingly competitive business environment, particularly against the background of globalization. Studying the impact of e-business on supply chain management has been a popular research topic in recent years. However, there seems to be a lack of empirical studies that measure benefits and barriers of e-business on supply chain management. This research explores the impact of e-business on supply chain management on a sample of Classmates' firms (postgraduate students studying a part-time Master's degree in Strategic Purchasing and Supply Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University), and two samples of logistics firms. Correlation analysis was performed to determine whether the level of using e-business on supply chain management in a firm is positively associated with its level of benefit. Also, correlation analysis was performed to determine whether the level of using more advanced e-business application on supply chain management in a firm is negatively associated with its level of barrier. The findings indicate that the using e-business on supply chain management is strongly correlated with benefit in a positive direction in the sampled firms. Moreover, the findings indicate that the using more advanced e-business application on supply chain management is strongly correlated with barrier in a negative direction in the sampled firms. Most important, the research is to find the key benefit and barrier. The implications of the results are discussed, and suggestions for further research are proposed.en_US
