| Abstract: | With China's accession the to World Trade Organization, more foreign construction companies have been venturing into the China construction market. However, firms interested to expand business to foreign markets always face a difficult decision regarding the choice of entry mode. Wholly Foreign Owned Company (WFOE) and Joint Venture (JV), are the most predominating entry modes and account for more than 90% of the total FDI. There are many researches which focus on the binary choice of the two modes, but relevant studies in the construction market is limited. This study using a statistic test based on a sample of 30 construction professional in Beijing to examine the reasons for the selection of the mode of entries and identify the successful factors for the implementing of them in the China construction market. The results indicate that the choice of WFOE and JV are largely based on the same set of data, with slightly difference in their priority. Base on the results, the author develops a generic model for the selection of the entry mode to China. The results are useful for managers that are new to the market. |
