| dcterms.abstract | The career and employment services provided by Student Affairs Unit of Hong Kong Technical (Chai Wan) has been established since 1995. During past years of service delivery, there has not been any comprehensive measure to evaluate effectiveness of the services. Hence, an objective-based effectiveness model was set up in this study. A survey was also conducted to rate the effectiveness and performance of the career and employment services by feedback from service users. Population of this study was the fresh graduates of year 1996/97 from the Hong Kong Technical College (Chai Wan). Questionnaires were sent to them by mail. A total of 142 valid questionnaires was received. The questionnaire asked respondents to indicate on a 5-point scale their ratings of achievement of specific objectives of career and employment services. The respondents were also invited to rank the importance of variables that were used to tap the weights on the three service objectives. Analysis of the data indicated that the overall effectiveness of the services was 0.66 out of unity, representing an acceptable to a moderate level of effectiveness. Differences were found among the perceptions of students from the six academic departments towards the ratings of effectiveness, performance and service utilization. The results provide important implications for service improvement and development. Further investigation on the service inadequacies is recommended. | en_US |
