dcterms.abstractWe propose a user requirements analysis methodology. The methodology consists of five steps, which cover requirements identification/elicitation, formalization, verification and validation. The focus on this methodology is on dynamic modelling, which studies the state/event behaviour of a software system. In this dissertation, we apply Scenario Analysis to model the dynamic behaviour of user requirements. Actually, Scenario Analysis is a derivative of a state transition diagram and it partitions a complex system into different user views. Based on this model, we build a validation tool to automate the analysis. The validation tool will check some properties of a scenario diagram like reachability, determinism, chain rule, regularity and same start/end states. They are based on Graph and Finite Automata Theory applied to the scenario diagram. Seven test cases seeded with various errors were run through this tool. We found that all these errors were detected successfully. Although some limitations were found like inconsistency between scenario diagrams, we can confirm that Scenario Analysis has its value to requirements analysis. At last, directions for future research are discussed.en_US
