Abstract: | This is a research to study the state-of-art technologies used in and the technological development trend of large scale electronic document management system (EDMS) and its major components with a view to developing a generic functional model and an evaluative framework of EDMS and to use them as the basis for evaluating and developing large scale EDMS. The student has conducted intensive review on research papers, journals and reports in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Michigan in the United States. He also had discussions with information systems and information technology experts in leading organizations in system and network design, public carrier service, and hardware and software development. Details of the generic functional model and evaluative framework are presented in Chapter 4. Major considerations for developing large scale EDMS, using the case of Government Records Services as an example, are discussed in Chapter 11 while the conclusions in respect of the technological development trends are shown in Chapter 12. |
