dcterms.abstractThe core business of Operations Control Center (OCC) is to provide services on a central hub for West Rail of the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC), locating at the West Rail Building at Kam Tin, central monitoring and control the railway equipment and facilities. The staffs working at the OCC should be decisive, agile and responsive so that a safe, reliable and high quality transportation service can be provided. Due to enormous complexity of different scenarios, it is not possible for all the operational staffs at OCC to know everything about their jobs. The scope of the project mainly focuses on the study of the feasibility on adopting Knowledge Management (KM) initiative through the conduction of a knowledge audit. The requirement for the implementation of a knowledge portal as a part of the KM strategy is also explored. As a result, the project aims to investigate the KM strategy for one of the Operations Units, Systems Operation Unit, at OCC. The contribution of this study may help the Systems Operation Unit (SOU) and other units of the West Rail of the KCRC seeking a way to implement KM initiative. If KM could be implemented successfully in the OCC, an innovative knowledge environment can be delivered to the OCC so that the systems operation and performance can be enhanced. As a result, the company can be more competitive than other competitors in the market segment. Through the questionnaire-based survey and individual interview to the staffs in the SOU and the practitioners who are considered as knowledge sources for the SOU, this study has the potential to assist other interest researchers in refining and modifying this approach to maximize the effectiveness of knowledge management and insight that is still deficient in this study. To make KM adoption to be implemented successfully, a strong and visible support from top management is required and which is one of the vital findings for this study.en_US
