| dcterms.abstract | Managers in 12 semiconductor firms in Hong Kong were surveyed about the process of scanning. The contents and sources of their information were examined with the objective of analyzing and evaluating the importance of environmental scanning for strategic management. The findings suggest that there is a growing awareness of the importance of environmental scanning. Scanning behaviors are consistent with results identified in past research. This study proposes that effective environmental scanning should be matched to the complexity of the external environment, systematized with scanning efforts and be consistent with strategy, organization structure and culture. The propensity for industry foresight and the balance in scanning both the task and general environment should be nurtured. | en_US |
