| dcterms.abstract | The first serious use of gaming as a learning approach started in the 1950's. Subsequent research established the potential of games for communicating complexity. By late 1970's, funded by large organizations and with the use of computers, gaming was use to deal with complex decision making environments that defied quantification. This project employs gaming for developing observations about the evolution of knowledge of the disciplinary characteristics. In the Investment Game, teams of participants buy and sell stocks using a hypothetical money, seeking the maximum portfolio value over a pre-defined trading period. This kind of game is intended as an educational tool using competition among teams to motivate participants to learn in an exciting and dynamic way. The origin of this project is the investment game organized by East Kowloon JAYCEES - Affiliated of Hong Kong Junior Chamber of Commerce, which takes place annually. The essence of the project is the development of a software tool to model the dynamic of real-life investment environment. Two versions of a simulator are developed. The first one is implemented on client/server technology, which models the price behaviour by a stochastic process. The other is run on Internet, which is based on real life prices and events. In both of these versions, participants are judged by their portfolio value at the end of the game. | en_US |
