Critical success factors of end user computing in public utilities companiesen_US
End User Computing was found to be permeating but relatively under-studied in Hong Kong. This thesis reports the results of an empirical investigation of the factors influencing End User Computing Success in Hong Kong Public Utilities Companies, including management support, external support, external training, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, internal support and internal training. The study was based on the conceptual model as employed by Zinatelli in New Zealand and TAM models as postulated by Davis et. al. The use and testing of Zinatellis' research model involved: (1) Preliminary investigations on current EUC practice in Public Utilities Companies, (2) Case Study and Pilot Test on 6 firms, (3) A survey of 550 computer end users in Public Utilities Companies including The Civil Service. SAS was chosen as the tools for data analysis, including STAT for survey administration and descriptive data analysis, SCL for screen control and design and CALIS for LISREL path analysis. Overall, the study provided support for TAM theory in the context of Hong Kong Public Utilities Companies. Further investigation on organizational sophistication and End User Sophistication and their effect on EUC success were highlighted. Management and practical implications and research recommendations in regard to critical success factors of managing EUC were discussed.en_US
