Study of strategic arrangement of information systems in the Hong Kong banking sectoren_US
Survive in today's increasingly turbulent and volatile environment is not an easy task to the management team of many organizations. Reliance on information systems is getting greater and greater. However, the ever changing technology poses them problematic issues as to how closely fit their information systems should be with the technology. They also doubt about the overwhelming costs in maintaining existing information systems. To the bankers, their major business is in the financial field. Putting too many resources into technology development may not place them into advantageous positions as this may weaken their strengths of their core competency. With the high cost of operation brought about by the rapid technological change, outsourcing information systems to a third party will be a solution that help to improve their competitive advantage. However, they should take note of the impact the outsourcing decision might bring to their existing information technology staff, whether this will lower their morale and cause a leakage of the knowledgeable staff to their competitors. Besides, ensuring that the outsourcing company is capable in developing or maintaining information systems of good quality is of crucial importance as this will directly affect satisfaction level of the bank customers, which in turn, will affect profitability.en_US
