Collaborative planning forecasting replenishment prototype (CPFR) for configurable production networken_US
Technology is shifting the advantage gradually away from a single organization towards a collaborative network with business partners through Internet to get competitive advantages in the marketplace. Emergence a new era of Internet, many companies faced more challenges in term of leanness, flexibility, reputation and talent from competitors. They have found different ways to sustain their position in this new Internet business environment. One possible way is collaboration with business partners to integrate the supply chain process in order to enhance their capability and accumulate resources in production network. Today, production network requirements became more dynamic in the supply chain processes. Collaborative technology for implementing in configurable production network is studied in this dissertation to reduce inventory holding, provide quick response, streamline business process since alignment of interests among partners are difficult to achieve. This dissertation proposed a concept of collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment (CPFR) prototype tools to support transformation of operation from one company to an extended enterprise network. It is believed that applying the CPFR prototype can help to speed up the forecasting planning significantly, especially for inventory replenishment management with retailers. A case study was used to articulate this CPFR prototype implementation in a company in order to achieve cost effective operation and make information visible with her retailers in a configurable production network of garment industry. The early result can be achieved in reducing the cost of communication, making delivery on schedules, shortening production lead times, improving customer services, strengthening inventory replenishment integration and increasing sales turnover. A synthesized model is proposed to apply in other companies under certain conditions in this dissertation. It refers to one source of forecasting figures from business retailers through collaborative technology to generate inventory replenishment levels on each retailer store. According to the inventory replenishment level on particular items, manufacturers issue orders to produce and ship the items to retailer stores where they are out of stock on these items. In summary, CPFR prototype is a tool to show information visibility to extend the operation management from one company to a business network. It can support the configurable production network if it is properly implemented. Companies applying this CPFR prototype with her business can secure and get competitive edges in the marketplace.en_US
