Abstract: This research deals with a theoretical, experimental study and site testing (Case Study) for the panel type silencer and vibration isolator applied for low frequency control for the Room Air Conditioner (RAC) System. A special design for low frequency noise absorption was carried out in the laboratory of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to evaluate suitable panel type silencer. The silencer was then delivered to a primary school in Tai Po for further testing. Besides, the vibration isolator is also designed and tested in this research. A series of testing on the performance of silencer and vibration isolator were carried out in the laboratory and on site. The results show those panel type silencer and vibration isolators are effective in low frequency noise control. This is the first successful practical application of the panel type silencer in RAC system in a Hong Kong's primary school. It demonstrates that new designed technique panel type silencer and vibration isolator are effective in reducing low frequency noise by controlling both aerodynamic noise and structural born noise. From the testing results obtained, the panel type silencer are a superior equipment in low frequency noise control and can be used to substitute the commonly used dissipative silencer particularly in controlling low noise frequency.
