E-procurement application in a Hong Kong petroleum companyen_US
Nowadays every business process is linked up with a prefix "e". It seems that procurement process cannot escape from this e-evolution. Especially at present every enterprise is pursuing a streamlining of every business process through which work efficiency and cost reduction can be achieved. Definitely procurement of 3rd party goods and services is one of such important business processes worth investigating in detail how information technology can enhance its importance and contribution to the enterprise. The project used a case study method which applied the theoretical framework on a Hong Kong petroleum company. Individual interview and company data are the main sources for analysis and drawing conclusion. Through this study, we can examine how the procurement function can develops an e-procurement strategy which can match and be integrated with the selected supply strategy for specified commodities, so that the greatest benefit can be brought to the company. In fact this study will show that, in order to achieve the lowest total cost, each commodity has its own combination of supply strategy and e-procurement strategy which may be different from that of others. To select these strategies combination, five major steps should be taken, namely spend analysis, segmentation analysis, infrastructure assessment, selection of appropriate supply strategy and then selection of e-procurement model which can best fit with the selected supply strategy. At last, the study discussed what potential impacts will be brought by the implementation of e-procurement to the procurement function with regard to the organization structure, people and task. The possible impact on the corporate strategy and how the negative impact can be mitigated will also be tried to explore.en_US
