Self-assessment model for small contractorsen_US
During this decade, many small contractors have successfully established their ISO 9000 quality assurance systems. However, customers are more demanding, more knowledgeable and more sophisticated nowadays. In order to survive, the contractors have to perform even better in future. This project aims to design a self-assessment model for these small contractors. It is considered to be a systematic process for continuous improvement and it is also a method of driving towards business excellence. Five world-class assessment models are reviewed in this research. These models consist of some common elements including leadership, strategy and planning, information and analysis, human resources management, customer management and satisfaction, process management, organizational result, supplier/partner management and impact on society. The findings of the pilot test show that the world-class assessment model is not applicable to small contractors. As a result, a self-assessment model is developed for small contractors. This model is based on the world-class models, the pilot test, two case studies in Hong Kong and three detailed interviews. The model is validated by trial run in a small firm and the findings are compared with those from the nonconformity analysis of ISO 9000 audits performed by HKQAA.en_US
