An empirical study of organisational stress on project managers in the building industry of Hong Kongen_US
A conceptual model is formulated and evaluated based on the stress literature developed in the western context. It examines the interrelationships of stressors, stress, dysfunctional outcomes, Type A behaviour and coping styles, using data from 72 respondents who are responsible for managing building projects in Hong Kong. Empirical support for some relationships as described in the model is found. There are significant relationships between some stressors and stress. However, the expected moderating effect by Type A behaviour on the relationship of stressors and stress cannot be proven. In addition, the result does not indicate the predicted relationship of Type A behaviour and coping styles. On the other hand, control - oriented coping style plays a buffering influence in the relationship of stress and ill symptoms. Future research on the topic is discussed.en_US
