| dcterms.abstract | This dissertation report reviewed the development of precast facade construction in public housing estate and its impacts to the Hong Kong construction industry. The Hong Kong Housing Authority is committed to upgrading and producing higher quality public housing through a series of improvement. The potential high quality offered by the preccast facade system was identified as an invaluable factor deserving serious consideration. In this report, the first move of precast facade construction was outlined. The reaction of contractors and the development of precast facade systems were discussed. The introduction of precast facade construction had triggered off various changes to the construction industry. Work studies were conducted on two different precast systems to illustrate the contractors' attitude and reaction towards the new system. Problems in implementation were identified and discussed. Comparison between the two different systems was also made in terms of cost, quality, time and safety. Contractor's B system was found to be superior in quality improvement and industrialization involvement. Review on the performance of the precast facade construction indicated that the system had achieved its objectives. The precast panel had certainly improved the problem of waterleakage and produced a higher quality of concrete. Besides, the development of precast construction followed the expectation of Hong Kong Housing Authority by changing the construction industry to become more industrialized. | en_US |
