Abstract: One may consider the education field a labour intensive industry because knowledge has to delivery to students directly in classrooms. It will be a breakthrough if one can choose to learn at home through a computer. In order to enable the student actually get the knowledge delivered, the tutoring system has to simulate the activities of professional teachers. A professional teacher will vary his teaching strategies and adjust the content of the teaching material according to the ability, learning style and progress of the students. An intelligent tutoring system (ITS) is a tutoring system that has considered the above requirements. The aim of this project falls mainly on the architectural requirement of an intelligent tutoring system for Hong Kong students. A prototype of an ITS has been developed for teaching of the topic 'inequality' for Hong Kong secondary school students. A group of form-four students has been selected to test the performance of the tutor. All of them can pass the post-test after the tutorial lesson. It shows that ITS has the potential to apply in formal education curriculum of the secondary education in Hong Kong.
