Abstract: The aim of this project is to design a software development process framework suitable for small project in order to minimize the effort and overhead required for my working company to comply to Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) [1]. This is a common problem, not just happening in my working company. Many companies still oppose to SEI CMM with the reason of lack of resources and not suitable for small projects [4]. In this project, a software development process framework is tailored for small project. Process customization is done in the areas of project life cycle, documentation, software quality assurance, software configuration management, training, review, project organisation, project planning and tracking [8]. Besides, a tool set was designed and developed according to the proposed process framework in order to facilitate the implementation of the process. After the implementation of the proposed process framework and tool set, evaluation has been performed through effort tracking, process mapping against key process areas, user survey and actual use by author. Positive result is obtained in the fulfillment of targeted key process areas and achievement of total effort reduction by 30 percents. The proposed process framework will be used as a basis for continuous improvement.
