Design and implementation of micro-computer controlled motor drivers for an automatic transfer lineen_US
In this project, one reliable and flexible motor control system is designed and constructed to control the five-phase stepping motor and the AC induction motor used in an automatic transfer line. The system consists of a personal computer and the associated interfaces card drivers. The control system is able to control speed with a high resolution. It meets the safety requirement by using a built-in protection circuitry which detects any fault occurrence and stops the motors automatically. Moreover, it can work in a noisy industrial environment. In this project, some factors which influence the performance are studied in order to seek the way to improve the system performance and to solve identified problems. The factors studied are natural instability and resonance of the stepping motor, the harmonics in the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller, regeneration power during emergency stop, unwanted signal when working in a noisy industrial environment. This final design shows how the identified problems are overcome in order to control both kinds of motors so that they could run smoothly and stop precisely. The protection circuit can detect possible faults during motion and can work in a noisy environment. Hence, the system performance meets the requirement of a high quality controller. Although the mechanism used in this project is constructed using the modules available in the Pao Siu Loong Measurement and Control Laboratory, all electrical and mechanical characteristics are similar to those found in a real system.en_US
