| dcterms.abstract | In the surface mount technology(SMT) manufacturing market, there are many automatic machines available. Most of them employ charge couple device(CCD) cameras & sophisticated pattern recognition systems to handle xy coordination. However, they are either very expensive or only suitable for standard SMT processes. So, some special processes are still manually operated. "Birdy/Albatronic" is one of the SMT manufacturers in Hong Kong. This company does not have fully automatic machines but must satisfy the high quality requirements of the SMT market. It is necessary for this company to develop an industrial automation project, so that this company can produce the highest quality product with minimum investment. This project focuses on the special process automation, starting from design to implementation. The results can speed up the production rate by 3 times, reduce the yield loss from 0.5% to 0.01%, improve the working environment by lowering the PCB temperature, etc. The success of this project has shown a very important message to the company. HK manufacturers can upgrade to a higher technology environment by themselves, although the driving force comes from external competition. Although this project has introduced only a stand alone automation machine, it is the first step to full automation, flexible manufacturing and computer integrated manufacturing. After this project has shown the success of automation, everyone is being excited in the company. The direction of this company is in industrial automation, which may also be the direction of the Hong Kong industry. | en_US |
