Distributed object programming environment for smart card application developmenten_US
This report presents a distributed programming framework, called ORBCard framework, for smart card application. Smart card exclusive features, such as mobility and security management, provide attractive alternatives for current e-commerce Web environment. This framework resolves some of the constraints when promoting traditional smart card applications to distributed / networked environment. The objective of ORBCard is to encapsulate the smart card as a typical CORBA object such that it can communicate with remote CORBA objects to form a distributed application. It also ensures that current on-card applications can easily plug into the framework without modification. ORBCard framework is built on CORBA and Java Card technologies. The core component of ORBCard is an Adpator, which acts as a proxy between remote CORBA objects and Java Card applet. Adaptor performs data marshalling / un-marshalling in CORBA environment and performs APDU translation in smart card environment. In particular, we have developed an ORBCard compiler, which automates the generation of client stubs and proxy classes using IDL as the baseline interface description language. The implementation of a sample distributed application shows the feasibility and validity of using ORBCard framework in real distributed environment.en_US
