Abstract: This study is on a corporate example of transformation. It relates the external forces of the change of ownership and environmental competition exerted on the Hong Kong subsidiary of an overseas company to the organizational transformation it has been experiencing in the past one and a half years. The external pressures have pushed the Hong Kong organization to be transformed from being a member company of the former U.K. holding group which relied mostly on sales to the group companies to becoming a self reliant, service oriented and customer focused operation which has to establish its own position in the third party customer business in order to continue its growth. The transformation required have led to organizational restructuring and other internal changes of the organization. The changes, however, are not very well-planned and managed, and suffer a lack of coordinated and concerted efforts in, for example, employing more and specific organizational development (OD) interventions to enable the transformation to have a smooth transition to its desired state. A number of resistance problems and communication and conflict issues have thus resulted from the change process. Through the diagnosis of the sources of the problems and the suggested approaches to deal with these problems, it is hoped that the organization can eventually move towards the desired state of the transformation. Alter a review of the management mechanism, its operations and the environments, management strategies are also recommended for the organization to adopt in this post-organizational changes period. It is hoped that the recommended strategies can enable the organization to move a notch ahead to achieve strategic growth in the face of the increasingly competitive environment.
