dcterms.abstractThe lack of standardization for NC program format among control systems has caused duplication of efforts to develop different post-processors. This dissertation aims at developing a generic post-processor which can adapt to various types of CLData file as input, process and transform them to produce NC part program suitable for different types of NC control unit. All the CLData format(as input) and NC program format(as output) are definable by users and stored permanently. In addition, the dissertation also aims to explore the benefit of using object-oriented approach in system design and development of the said system. Owing to the rapid-changing of CAM technology, much improvement and enhancement can be made to the system. Object-oriented approach has many advantages over the traditional structured approach: - It results in smaller systems through the reuse of common mechanism - It is more resilient to change and readily evolving over time, because the design is based upon more stable intermediate framework. - It emphasizes the development of software via incremental steps from smaller systems. This, in turn, reduces the risk of building more complex systems. - It offers a better way to address the separation of concerns in a large state space. Owing to time constraint, the system is not implemented to a level detailed enough for commercial use. The aim is to implement the concept of generic post-processor and put it in object-oriented design so that the system can serve as a framework with a strong foundation for further development.en_US
