Abstract: | The establishment of the Student Affairs Office in the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee) was a challenge to me in my working lives for the past few years. In the present working world of work talking about quality and continuous improvement, as a leader of the Office, I have to be equipped with a variety of skills for effective and efficient management of the Section within the Campus. Much effort has been put on cultivation of teamship among staff, strategic planning to position our Section in the Campus, gaining Management support and recognition, and provision of quality and professional services to our students. The need for improvement of career services for our students was identified in this project. The smooth implementation of the project involved the practical use of boundary spanning skills, which included the strike for resources, active coalitions with other sections, and is creative and innovative in provision of new services to meet the changing and diversified needs of our service recipients. In an ever-changing world of work, we also need to be fully equipped and prepared ourselves to face sudden challenges and changes and to respond in a open, positive and analytical manner. In leading the team towards continuous improvement and overcoming difficulties and barriers when encountering challenges, the successful management of changes depends greatly on internal cohesion, external collaboration, and entrepreneurial leadership. |
