| dcterms.abstract | In view of the research gap in the code-mixing in Hong Kong workplace context, this research is conducted to explore the sociolinguistic motivations and the linguistic variations of Cantonese-English code-mixing in Hong Kong workplace. It is found that circumstance and style of interaction, topic, as well as age and educational level of the interlocutor are factors affecting code-mixing in Hong Kong workplace. Linguistically, this paper finds support to the earlier researches in the general context of Hong Kong that the syntactic structure of code-mixing in Hong Kong is predominantly Cantonese. In this paper, there are investigation into the different linguistic features such as noun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, discourse marker, idiomatic expression and quotation. At the end of the paper, it is reminded that an implicit language evolution is underway with the emergence of a new form of language that is used by the people of Hong Kong unnoticeably. | en_US |
