A study of the impact of the new job of local area network administration of the government office automation programme on the motivation of executive officers in the Hong Kong Civil Serviceen_US
The objective of this project is to study the impact of the new job of the Local Area Network (LAN) of the government Office Automation programme on the motivation of the Executive Officers in the Hong Kong civil service. Hackman and Oldham's job characteristics model is used in this study and information is collected by sending questionnaires to the Executive Officers who are working as LAN administrators during the period of research. The research findings show that the Executive Officers perceive the LAN administration work as having low motivating potential and they only experience moderate internal work motivation, growth satisfaction and general job satisfaction in performing the LAN administration work. To enhance the motivation and satisfaction of the Executive Officers in handling the LAN administration work, management is recommended to improve the job incumbents' computer knowledge and skill, their perceived task significance and feedback from supervisors.en_US
