Abstract: There have been many studies on outsourcing globally, but the similar studies on hotel industry in Hong Kong are hardly found. The objective of this study is to identify the main purposes and leading factors of outsourcing, and investigate the problems in outsourcing. In the research 15 senior managers in Hong Kong hotel industry were interviewed. Through qualitative analysis, it is identified that reducing cost and reducing business operation risk are the main purposes of outsourcing. This study reveals that there are several factors leading outsourcing, such as: competition, the philosophy of hotel management. Some problems also appear in the process of outsourcing, for instance, how to control the service quality and select qualified outside suppliers.
