| dcterms.abstract | The purpose of this study was to investigate the test-retest reliability, the inter-rater reliability, the internal consistency and the discriminant validity of the Behavioral Scale of the Chinese Version of Psychoeducational Profile-Revised (CPEP-R). Many persons are suffering from autism in Hong Kong. Their parents and trainers are concerned the peculiar behavior of these children. CPEP-R is the only available Chinese assessment tool tailor-made for assessing children with autism. Therefore, it is extremely important to validate the test. Moreover, it would enhance the communication among rehabilitation personnel and improve the training program of these children. A total of 60 children were recruited in the study with 30 children with autism (Group A) and 30 normal children (Group B). Subjects in Group A were recruited for the investigation of test-retest reliability, inter-rater reliability and internal consistency of the scale. The results found that the Intra Class Correlation (ICC) was strong in test-retest reliability (0.94) and high ICC in inter-rater reliability (0.85). Besides, the internal consistency was high in all the subscales and total score (a from 0.75 to 0.87) except in the Language subscale (a= 0.63), which was moderate in results. Furthermore, Group B was recruited as a comparison group in the investigation of discriminant validity of the scale. Results from MANOVA found that the scale could significantly discriminate Group A from Group B at both scale and subscale level. But the scale could not discriminate the severity of the disorders under the confinement of this study. No evidence was found that the Behavioral Scale of CPEP-R was not valid and not reliable in assessing the behavior of children with autism. Nevertheless, further researches on the investigation of the discrimination of the scale from mild to severe autism and the establishment of cut-off score in the scale was suggested. Besides, the validation on the Developmental Scale of CPEP-R was also recommended. | en_US |
