dcterms.abstractMoving away from the frequently quoted examples in automobiles and electronics industries, this paper tries to find out how supplier development program works in the textile world. In combining the studies made from various researchers, a model for supplier development was developed. Based on an empirical case study through participant observation and interviews, the barriers for supplier development are identified with recommended solutions. It is concluded that supplier development program is not industry specific. It is feasible and effective for the textile industry. How the management teams of the buyer and supplier sides tackle the barriers and determine the success of the supplier development? As the supplier under examination is one of the biggest vendors in the world, this study serves the purpose of outline the environment for supplier development in the textile supply world. Whoever is interested in further exploring supplier development in textile supply market may find this study a basic framework to work from. The barriers identified are valuable as checklists for those readers not from the textile field, but are interested in supplier development.en_US
