Abstract: Service-Learning has developed for several decades, which focuses on the combination of meaningful service and curriculum-based learning. It helps to form the civic responsibility and academic knowledge. Service-Learning is an educational method that is similar to the practice of teaching activities in Mainland China, but the latter is focused on service and a few participants. The purpose of this research is to propose possible successful and practical Service-Learning strategies for the higher vocational educational colleges which would like to improve the actual application abilities of the students. To achieve the purpose of this research, both literature review and actual case studies are involved. The key objective of Service-Learning is win-win-win: school, community and student can all benefit from it, students can applied their academic skills to solve the real problem, the community can get the help, and colleges can improve their reputation and the quality of teaching. First, we introduce Service-Learning and the benefits brought by this educational strategy. Then we explore the proven successful best practices for Service-Learning from overseas. We indicate the difficulties exist for Service-Learning in Mainland China. We also present a program similar to Service-Learning. After that, some Service-Learning Programs including what had done and what are doing are demonstrated and analyzed. Finally, we present the results and findings after a thorough analysis of the information collected through the programs, and give practical recommendations on how to tackle the challenges and bring success to the Service-Learning projects. The research indicates how to use the concept of Service-Learning to guide students to carry out practical activities in the departments of the college. Draw on Service-Learning concept, students will enhance the usefulness and effectiveness of practice teaching in computer science, enhance the motivation of students. The research will describe what challenge may be encountered during the actual implementation process, and how to be handled them.
