Design & implementation of an Internet voting systemen_US
Traditional election system suffers from three main problems. Firstly, it is costly to administer a secure election in order to protect voters' privacy. Secondly, manual voting process may lead to inaccurate vote tabulation due to human errors. Thirdly, voters need to go to designated polling stations to cast votes. This may affect the turnout rate of the voters, especially those who are far away from the stations. With the advance of the Internet technology and the cryptographic techniques, it is now feasible to hold secure and private elections on the Internet. With Internet voting, less manpower is needed to administer an election and voters can vote anywhere at anytime. This enables global elections to be conducted in a cost-effective manner. In this dissertation, the design and implementation of a secure and private Internet voting system is presented. The system ensures that only registered voters can vote and that each registered voter can only vote once. Blind signature technique is employed to ensure voters' privacy. Besides, the voting system allows each voter to verify that his/her vote is counted correctly. To demonstrate the functionality of the Internet voting protocol, a basic Internet voting system was successfully developed using JAVA.en_US
