Improvement of outsourcing practice using decision support system : a case study in a precision machining centreen_US
Thanks to the development of information systems and the progress of artificial intelligence & decision theories, companies today are able to leverage the expertise embodied in their organizations by developing decision support system (DSS). DSS allows knowledge workers or decision makers concentrate more of their time on the higher value-added portion of their work. Because of the tough financial situations, public sectors are all in great pressures to find ways to save resources. To achieve the objective, many government departments are working now on trimming staff size, reorganization and redeploying work teams, reengineering the operation process as well as outsourcing non-cost effective activities. The aim is to minimize professionals' involvement in supplier evaluation process and selection. The organization can then concentrate on other core business functions. In other words, it can be in a better position to utilize the human resources within the department. Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) is considered to be an effective and efficient software tool for drilling through data. In this dissertation, OLAP and other data mining tools are applied in a DSS for supplier selection system.en_US
