| Abstract: | Logistics support system is widely used in the manufacturing business nowadays. Some organizations use the logistics support system to reduce the operation cost and increase the production efficiency. Also, some organizations use it to improve the sales network and marketing strategies in order to capture the best comparative advantages. In this dissertation we will look into how the opportunity created by modern information technology that can be used to update the product information worldwide, launch new products, reduce the quotation lead-time, improve customer satisfaction and create value. Through a case study found in an instrument manufacturing international company, I try to analyze the problems, risks and opportunities encountered in forming a global sales network. After that, it also shows how a logistics support system generating an added advantage from pooling infrastructures and resources, supporting overseas offices and dealers and running the business more cost effectively. In this project, Fischer use OLAP technology for the data mining. The backbone of system operation is supported by the Eastop*Application suite. It applies 6 modules for the application. The huge amount of data flow can be sorted and found by OLAP efficiently. The methodologies and the infrastructure of logistics information system are discussed in the Chapter 3. The case study is discussed in the Chapter 4. It includes the company background, feasibility study and project implementation philosophy and skills. In chapter 5, it demonstrates the sales support web site and global web site. It give a clear signs to the readers that how to make use the existing internet and web application. In chapter 6, we have a conclusion and suggest the further study of the using logistics information system to assist the customer relationship management (CRM). It is because we find that most of the required data for CRM can be found in the logistics information system. In Hong Kong and Guangdong province, a lot of small and medium enterprises face the challenges to establish their sales network and sell their products to overseas. This dissertation may help them to get the idea from a small European company how to use the logistic support system to sell their products globally. |
