Abstract: So far, there is no an appropriate tool in the market doing the financial statement analysis for the listed enterprises in PRC and Hong Kong. This may inhibit the analysts and investors to do the intelligent decision. Inquiry of a financial statement for analysis is an ad hoc query. Each analyst or investor will have his or her own questions from time-to-time. To solve this problem, a quick response system that can provide different perspectives of data should be provided. An OLAP system is a decision supportive system. It can provide multidimensional views of data. It can provide features about data summary, drill down, roll up and rotation about the knowledge domain, OLAP is believed to be capable of solving the complicated queries. Transmission of information via the Internet is the biggest impact on IT industry in the millenium. Doing OLAP via Internet will be the main theme of this dissertation. However, putting financial statement analysis, OLAP and web technology together are still in the conceptual level. In the implementation detail, there still have many problems not been addressed. In this dissertation, an OLAP system for financial data analysis via Internet will be developed. In the process of development, the author is going to address the issues about analysis, design, implementation, testing and evaluation of financial statement data, OLAP system and Web technology accordingly.
