Abstract: The objectives of the study of this dissertation are: 1. Identifying the IGV system knowledge and component knowledge regarding the causes of failures and its maintenance & diagnosis repair in Design, Diagnosis and Maintenance (DDM) approach. 2. Developing a comprehensive diagnosis and maintenance computerised system to assist the maintenance works. The Inlet Guide Vanes overall responses have been identified. These different overall responses were classified into the corresponding condition of Preference, Transition and Non-preference, as in the Design, Diagnosis and Maintenance (DDM) approach. Possible deterioration or failures causing the overall responses have been discussed. The condition of preference, effects of the corresponding components and sub-components level to the overall IGV System responses have been determined. Maintenance and diagnosis repair actions of these components are simply the actions to transfer the sensation parameters from the condition of transition back to preference or from non-preference to preference in DDM approach. Following the identification of the observable status in the observable state set of the sensation parameter related to the system level, component level and sub-component level, the result was stored in database format. A "Gas Turbine IGV Diagnosis & Maintenance System" computer program written in Microsoft Visual FoxPro was developed to retrieve the information in the database. The "Gas Turbine IGV Diagnosis & Maintenance System" equipped with the function to retrieve database on general equipment information, component knowledge, system knowledge, past maintenance history and the maintenance history database updating function. Following the completion of the "Gas Turbine IGV Diagnosis & Maintenance System", maintenance team can use it as a tool of quick reference to acquire the maintenance knowledge and as a maintenance history database. Operation personnel can use it as a handbook to consult the plant equipment setting.
