Abstract: With the increasing elderly population, the number of frail elderly who need care from their family members was increasing. What motivates the caregivers to provide care of good quality is of interest to social workers so as to make suitable intervention to ensure the caring quality. The research aimed to (1) to investigate the intergeneration relationship between the daughter caregivers and their aged mother; (2) to investigate the caring quality of the daughter caregivers to their aged mother; (3) to find out the possible aspect if intergeneration relationship had its influence on the caring quality. Qualitative research method with the interview guide approach was adopted in order to get more in-depth understanding of the topic. Two daughter caregivers who are the primary caregivers of their stroke mothers were interviewed twice. It was found when there is mutuality, good communication, and closeness in the mother daughter relationship, the caring quality provided by the daughter seems to be better both on the psychological and physical aspects. It was recommended that social work intervention should be focused on the caregivers as well as the elderly people in order to facilitate their intergeneration relationship. Education should be made to promote harmonious family life. Moreover, services such as Day Care Centres, Home Help Teams should be strengthened to provide community support service to the caregivers. Residential services for those elderly who need intensive nursing care should be increased so that the family members could be less stressful and have more energy to take care of the psychological needs of the elderly.
