Applying CADD technology in the management of Hong Kong Telephone external plant networken_US
Advances in Computer Aided Design and Draughting (CADD) technology* has given birth to a new generation of computer graphics systems that accomplish more than just simple manipulation of records. It emphasizes supporting the needs of more efficient and reliable engineering, and a database for managing inventory. Such specialized CADD systems are more commonly referred to as Automated Mapping/Facilities Management (AM/FM) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). This dissertation has focused on evaluating how Hong Kong Telephone's experimental CADD system should be developed, in the light of productivity gains, in the daily draughting and records management exercise. A conceptual framework has been developed, and based on this framework that benefit/cost analysis of the full scale AM/FM project has been performed. * CADD can be defined as a process which uses a computer in the creation and modification of design and draughting.en_US
