A study of competitiveness improvement for the fashion & clothing subject in a prevocational schoolen_US
Fashion & Clothing is one of the Technical/Commercial subjects taught in the Hong Kong Weaving Mills Association Chu Shek Lun Prevocational School. Every Form one student must learn this subject. It is taught from Form one to Form five in this school. Every year there is a fashion show activity held by the subject, and it is very popular with staff, students and parents. It is the school's traditional practice that male students, upon reaching Form four, would be offered another technical subject. Only the female Form three graduates would be given the opportunity to choose between Fashion & Clothing or Travel & Tourism. The chosen subject will be studied for two years. Students with better academic attainment tend to choose Travel & Tourism instead of Fashion & Clothing. This phenomenon is considered not healthy by subject teachers and has intrigued the author for some time. A study on ways to improve the competitiveness of Fashion & Clothing was launched. Questionnaires were set for Form 4C and 4D female students to express their opinions on the Fashion & Clothing subject. Several selected personnel were also invited to give their opinions and advice on the subject in an interview. Books, journals, reports and government publications were consulted. All this information and data were employed to develop a competitiveness improvement strategy for the subject. The proposed strategy incorporates teenagers' personal development, the direction of government education, the teachers' situation, and the fashion and clothing industry's evolution.en_US
