Abstract: Nowadays, power electronic devices are common for Commercial & Industrial Buildings. Harmonic penetration created from non-linear loads may cause the consequent effects on the LV distribution system such as power interruption and malfunction of system equipment and loads. Due to growing of e-commerce, many Facility Management Centres are to be built to meet the rapid demand of the Internet Business. A high power load density of computer equipment and HVAC system is required. Thus, the harmonic effects on the utilities power source and the emergency generating set are worth to study and investigate in order to maintain the high standard and reliability of continuous power supply for the critical loads in the Facility Management Centre. In view of the present design strategies on the electrical distribution network in buildings, the electrical designers are only concerned about the electrical demand and the power factor to meet the supply rules of the power supply companies. Thus, the evaluation of the harmonic effect of the increasing of power electronic equipment should be studied and the predicted values of harmonics should be considered and incorporated into the electrical design on the power quality and energy aspects. The modeling of system components and non-linear loads such as computer equipment, UPS, VSD is aided to evaluate the levels of harmonic distortion at the point of common coupling at the utilities sources and the terminal of emergency generating sets. Various tests and system configurations of grouped and combined equipment can be simulated in aid of harmonic treatment devices to achieve the harmonic compliance and energy saving. Finally, the relationship of the harmonic penetration among the utilities source, emergency generating sets and Facility Management Centre is concluded, The new design strategies on the electrical distribution network for Facility Management Centre are persented. The design procedures of evaluation on the harmonics are highly recommended for the design of electrical installation and the developed approaches can be applied for general purpose of Commercial and Industrial Buildings.
