Abstract: Establishing bilateral and regional Free Trade Area (FTA) has become a specific form of global economic integration. As a rapidly developing large country, China cannot isolate itself from the mainstream of the world. At present many FTA negotiations are on China's agenda. As for any other countries, joining an FTA is not a goal in its own right but one of the means to ensure national interest and economic security, and all possibilities should be explored to steer the FTA to one's own favor. To realize this objective, specific analyses and judgments should be made with regard to the economic impact and its repercussions of joining an FTA. Taking advantage of CGE model, this study calculates direct and indirect impacts of nine FTA negotiations on the overall economic volume of China. Furthermore, by policy simulation and scheme comparison, this study has done quantitative analyses on sectors of the economy that have a bearing on economic strategy and national security, and made policy recommendations on basis of the analyses.
